About StoreyQuickNotes:

  • FREE TIME SAVING TOOLS FOR IMPAC USERS
  • CUT HOURS FROM THE STAFF WORK WEEK
  • REDUCE THE HEADACHES OF COMMON TASKS
  • WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER

StoreyQuickNotes are scripts I have written to help improve the IMPAC user interface.  Think of them as fancy keyboard shortcuts.  They improve the workflow within IMPAC and save time in the clinic.  This site presents those solutions to you for free.  It takes about 5 min to get any package up and running.  The process is quick and easy and designed for people that aren’t the most computer savvy.

I’ve used the shortcuts in the clinic since October of 2009 and I personally save about 30 min per week and my total staff hours are probably 2-3 hours less per week.

Technically, the scripts run using AutoHotkey – an amazing, free, open-source utility for Windows.

EVERYTHING PRESENTED ON THIS SITE IS FREE: ALL I ASK IN RETURN IS TO PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT IN THE SUPPORT SECTION IF YOU USE THIS IN YOUR CLINIC.

About AutoHotkey:

AutoHotkey is an amazing little program that lets anyone with some basic computer language / programming skills do amazing things.  It is a free open-source program available at www.autohotkey.com.

If you perform ANY redundant tasks at the computer – which everyone does – this little nifty program can make performing that task quicker, easier, and more accurate.  Whether it is using a three letter abbreviation to type out a longer signature or whether you go fancy and build entirely new user interfaces, it is one of my favorite programs on the internet.  It has a great underground following with a terrific support forum.  You can search WordPress for blogs on it and you’ll find many fans.

I found AutoHotkey in early September so I am relatively new to its features and language but my first month’s impression is an absolute WOW!  If you have any interest in programming and making life easier – check it out.  This entire site is basically one users application of that program.

About Me:

I am a Radiation Oncologist who has always tinkered with programming.  I’ve done pretty large and successful game “Mods” in the past which has helped to get my coding and scripting up to somewhere close to a low professional level.  Personally, I think I make for the lack of programming expertise with my clinical experience, understanding of the priorities of clinic workflow, and my interface design experience from my modding hobby.

For a long time, I thought the IMPAC interface needed an overhaul – cough – for a long time it has needed a major overhaul.  I have wanted to move to a chartless clinic but the interface of IMPAC really made me not want to move in that direction.  Around the 1st of September, I stumbled upon AutoHotkey and realized that many things that really hamper the workflow in IMPAC could be fixed or at least significantly improved using this program.

My clinic is currently in the process of going from some paper to none and these shortcuts are saving me time and energy in the process.  I’ve put them up here to help others make the transition.

About the Site:

The site is hosted at WordPress.com which is traditionally known as a blogging website host.  That said, it is a very flexible and powerful platform.  This is my 5th site or so using WordPress and I’m continually impressed with the final product regardless of how much like a blog or how little like a blog the website is structured.

If you are looking at building a site, WordPress does a great job.
